'AI POHAKU

Shoe Project

This was a shoe project from the second semester of my Sophomore year. We were given the task of designing a shoe for a specific problem of our own choosing. I decided to create a shoe for people who like to go fishing and need to walk across sharp reef in order to get to their "choice" fishing spot. The most popular shoes used for walking over reef would be Traditional Neoprene felt sole Tabi shoes which haven't changed very much over the years. I wanted to create  a shoe that could be worn as an everyday shoe while still being durable enough to use while fishing. I started with a few upper designs that used lightweight and durable materials and used a traditional Hawaiian pattern for the sole which had influenced the name of the shoe.
